The Tale of Ruth & Rachel McLaughlin, Twin Artists of Oklahoma
Two Twin Sisters...
Ruth and Rachel Hendershott grew up painting side-by-side, developing not just a shared style, but an artistic symbiosis.
Over the years, they created and sold an astonishing 4,800 paintings worldwide—most capturing the rustic charm and quiet beauty of rural American scenes.
...a Single Canvas
One of the most fascinating details about their process: on many paintings, they would each start on opposite halves, painting their own sections before swapping sides and completing each other's work. This collaborative method imbued their pieces with an uncanny harmony and unity that can only come from true twins.

What Is "The Ruth Rachel @ Paseo" Oklahoma Art Exhibit?"
The Tale of Ruth & Rachel McLaughlin, Twin Artists of Oklahoma
Born in 1932 in Duke, Oklahoma, Ruth Hendershott and her identical twin sister Margaret "Rachel" were the youngest of twelve siblings in a large, close-knit family in the heart of rural Oklahoma.
Their upbringing in that landscape infused both their lives and their art with a deep connection to the land—barns, oil derricks, homesteads, and country roads.
From Shawnee, Oklahoma
to the World
Though rooted in Shawnee, Oklahoma, the reach of their art surpassed regional boundaries. Their evocative landscapes found homes across the country—and beyond—yet the sisters continued to depict familiar backroads, twilight skies, and homesteads that resonated with warmth, nostalgia, and regional pride.
A Legacy of Creativity and Connection
Their creative partnership endured a lifetime. In 1949, they married in a touching double ceremony to the McLaughlin brothers, Ruth to Roy Greenlee and Rachel to Ralph Wayne.
This Collection celebrates not just their family, but the continuation of their shared journey here in the Historic Paseo Arts District in OKC.
